Retail & E-commerce Recruitment

Store operations, area and cluster management, category and buying, visual merchandising, warehouse and last-mile teams, and online marketplace roles across India and the UAE.

Overview

Does Mars Consultancy recruit for Retail & E-commerce?

Mars Consultancy is a retail and e-commerce recruitment agency, hiring since 2015 for brand stores, department stores, supermarkets, quick-commerce and online sellers. We fill store operations, area and cluster management, category and buying, visual merchandising, warehouse and last-mile, and digital commerce roles across India and the UAE.

Retail hiring is really three different jobs wearing one label. Frontline store staff are hired by catchment and availability, at volume, against a date. Category managers, buyers and performance marketers are scarce, specialised and negotiated one at a time. Warehouse and last-mile teams sit somewhere between the two, volume roles, but tied to a specific hub and a specific shift pattern. Treating all three the same way is why most retail mandates stall.

The other thing that makes this sector different is the calendar. A festive ramp, a store opening or a sale event does not move because the recruiter needs another fortnight. Hiring is planned backwards from a fixed date, with the drop between offer and joining built into the number rather than discovered on day one.

The hard part

What makes retail & e-commerce hiring difficult?

Store staff are hired by catchment and travel time, not by CV

A Fashion Consultant living in Kalyan will not sustain a Lower Parel roster for long, however good the interview was. Frontline retail hiring is a geography problem first: we source by catchment around the store, check the actual commute and the last local train the closing shift allows, and screen for willingness to work weekends and rotational shifts before the CV is ever discussed.

Festive and sale-event ramps land on a fixed date

Diwali, back-to-school and a platform's sale week are dates nobody can move, and the hiring for them starts and ends inside a few weeks. Bulk drives for these ramps are planned backwards from the go-live date with the expected offer-to-joining drop built into the target, so the floor is actually staffed on day one rather than on paper.

A store opening needs a whole team in place on day one

New store hiring is not a series of vacancies, it is one team with a single joining date, Store Manager, department heads, cashiers, consultants and stock staff, all trained before the shutter goes up. We sequence it so the Store Manager closes first and can sit in on floor-staff interviews, then run the rest as a catchment drive against the opening date.

Frontline churn means you are always hiring the same role

Attrition in store, warehouse and last-mile roles is high enough that a filled position rarely stays filled for a full year. Replacement hiring works better as a standing pipeline by catchment than as a fresh search each time, and honest screening on shift timings, weekly-off pattern and in-hand salary at the start is what actually reduces the repeat.

A category manager and a store manager are not the same hire

A Category Manager or Buyer is judged on margin, SKU assortment, vendor negotiation and sell-through; a Store Manager on footfall conversion, shrinkage, ATV and roster discipline; a Performance Marketing Executive on ROAS and marketplace listings. These are scarce, individually negotiated hires screened on numbers they have actually owned, not volume roles, and they do not come from the same pipeline.

Use cases

What does a retail & e-commerce brief usually look like?

Common shapes of requirement in this sector, and how each one is run. These are illustrative patterns rather than accounts of specific engagements.

A brand opening a new store in a mall

Volume Hiring
The brief
A full store team (Store Manager, department managers, consultants, cashiers and stock staff) all trained and on the floor for a fixed opening date.
How we run it
Closed the Store Manager first so they could sit in on floor-staff interviews, then ran the rest as a catchment drive around the mall, screening on commute, weekend availability and rotational shifts alongside the retail experience.

A retailer staffing up for the festive season

Volume Hiring
The brief
Additional consultants, cashiers and stock staff across several stores in the MMR, needed for the Diwali ramp and required to join within a few weeks of each other.
How we run it
Ran it as a volume drive planned backwards from the go-live date, sourcing by store catchment rather than centrally, with follow-up through to joining so the floor was staffed on day one rather than on paper.

An online seller building a category and marketplace team

Leadership Hiring
The brief
A Category Manager, a Marketplace Manager and a Performance Marketing Executive, scarce, individually negotiated hires where the numbers someone has actually owned decide the shortlist.
How we run it
Mapped candidates by category and platform exposure rather than designation, screened on assortment, margin and sell-through for the category roles and on ROAS and listing ownership for the marketing role, and kept the shortlist deliberately short.

A fulfilment operation scaling a Bhiwandi warehouse

Volume Hiring
The brief
Warehouse executives, inward and dispatch supervisors and a Hub Incharge for a facility running multiple shifts, where the hire has to live within reach of the hub.
How we run it
Sourced from the Bhiwandi, Thane and Kalyan belt rather than across the whole city, confirmed shift willingness and transport arrangements up front, and staggered joining dates so the shift roster filled in the order operations needed it.

Track record

Where has Mars hired for retail & e-commerce roles?

Across India and in the UAE. Our longest record is in the Mumbai region, and these are the belts where we have hired most for this sector. For most roles below management there, travel time decides whether an offer is accepted, so we screen for it.

FAQs

Retail & E-commerce hiring, answered

Ask a question
Do you recruit for retail stores and e-commerce companies?

Yes. We hire for brand stores, department stores, supermarkets, quick-commerce and online sellers, covering store operations, area and cluster management, category and buying, visual merchandising, warehouse and last-mile, and online marketplace roles across India and the UAE.

Can you staff a new store opening to a fixed date?

Yes. Store openings are run as volume hiring planned backwards from the opening date. The Store Manager is closed first so they can sit in on floor-staff interviews, then consultants, cashiers and stock staff are hired from the catchment around the store so the whole team is in place and trained on day one.

How do you handle festive season and sale-event hiring?

Festive and sale-event ramps are volume drives against a date that cannot move. We plan backwards from the go-live date, build the expected offer-to-joining drop into the target rather than discovering it on day one, and follow candidates through to joining rather than reporting on offers released.

How do you hire frontline retail staff who actually stay?

By hiring on catchment and honesty rather than on CV. We source from the residential catchment around the store, check the real commute and the shift the last local allows, and confirm weekend and rotational-shift willingness, weekly-off pattern and in-hand salary before shortlisting, the three things that cause most frontline retail exits in the first quarter.

Do you hire for warehouses and last-mile operations?

Yes, warehouse executives, inward and dispatch supervisors, hub incharges, supply chain executives and last-mile operations managers, hired at volume for the Bhiwandi, Panvel and Taloja fulfilment belt. These roles are sourced from the surrounding residential catchment, with shift willingness and transport confirmed up front.

Can you find category managers, buyers and e-commerce specialists?

Yes, worked one role at a time rather than as volume drives. Category managers, buyers, marketplace managers and performance marketing executives are mapped by category and platform exposure and screened on the numbers they have actually owned, assortment, margin and sell-through, or ROAS and listing ownership, not on designation.

Which locations do you cover for retail hiring?

We have hired for retail clients across India and in the UAE. In Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai that has included the Lower Parel, Andheri, Malad, Ghatkopar, Thane and Vashi retail catchments, plus the Bhiwandi, Panvel and Taloja warehousing belt. Retail mandates elsewhere in India and in the UAE run from the same desks.
